CULTURE AND HERITAGE
Our handicraft centre features crafts that have long been a part of the old ways of life. You can even have a go at our weaving station and have a glimpse into how people used to live on this land.
Artist Workshop (Under Maintenance)
Just next to the Handicraft Centre is our Artist Workshop. Local artisans channel their cultural background and creativity into turning natural materials like bamboos, stones and wood into useful daily products.
Suwarnadwipa Temple
The name Suwarnadwipa means Land of Gold in Sanskrit and is used to describe the island of Sumatra in ancient times. Vihara Suwarnadwipa (天竺禅寺) is situated in Taman Simalem resort compound against the backdrop of Mount Sibuaten and overlooks the magnificent Lake Toba. This temple is modeled after South Putuo Temple (南普陀寺) in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China which was built during the Tang dynasty. Vihara Suwarnadwipa aspires to spread the teachings of Buddhist Dharma based on compassion and harmonious living among humanity and all living beings.
